Our History

At Lascal, we are proud of our rich heritage of innovation in child mobility and safety solutions. Since our inception in the late 1980s, we have been dedicated to providing parents with practical, safe, and stylish products that make family life easier. Our flagship products, the BuggyBoard and the KiddyGuard, have revolutionized the way families travel and secure their homes. The BuggyBoard gives children a comfortable ride while freeing parents from the hassle of managing multiple strollers, and the KiddyGuard offers a sleek, retractable safety gate for modern living spaces.

With a focus on Swedish design, safety, and convenience, we continue to lead the market in creating products that help families enjoy every journey. Discover how Lascal's history of innovation and quality has made us a trusted name for parents worldwide.

— 1986

I, Joran Lundh, founded Lascal AB in Sweden after a long career in design, manufacturing, and marketing of my own patented building products at the company Producta AB.  After selling Producta AB in 1985, I decided to start Lascal AB.  As a new parent, I saw the need for better children's products and missed those that would be “good to have.” Together with my wife, we focused on functional and safe children's products. We built a range of products, manufactured in Germany, that I redesigned to suit the Swedish market.

One of our greatest successes during this period was with Teutonia strollers, which we distributed in both Sweden and Norway, and where the Quadro model became the leading combination stroller in Sweden. In 1994, I transferred our Teutonia business to the Teutonia company.

— 1991

We designed the first ride-on board, KiddyBoard™, manufactured in Sweden and designed to fit the strollers of the time. Sales started in Sweden and expanded to Germany, the UK, and France.  This early version, known as KiddyBoard Mod 1, laid the foundation for future BuggyBoard designs.

Initially, KiddyBoard™ was met with scepticism because it was a completely new product category.  Some retailers thought it was dangerous, and stroller manufacturers feared it would damage the strollers and posed a threat to their twin strollers.  To support and legitimize the product, I became involved as an expert in the EN standardization work for strollers, a category that includes ride-on boards.  Despite some resistance within the industry, consumers quickly embraced the product, and sales took off.  When demand exceeded capacity, we developed a new KiddyBoard™ made of plastic.

— 1999

We launched a new modern, improved KiddyBoard™. The development work also led to a new variant of the ride-on board, which we called BuggyBoard®. This differed from KiddyBoard mainly in terms of the connection to the stroller and the standing area. The launch of BuggyBoard® took place alongside KiddyBoard™.

Production took place in Sweden using modern plastic technology and advanced robotics. We used the same technique as the ski industry to decorate the standing surfaces, creating designs that children loved. Our BuggyBoard® “Happy Faces” with three emojis became particularly popular and was launched ten years before Apple’s emojis.

The new BuggyBoard® was universal and could be adapted to almost any stroller, leading to great sales success in over 35 countries.

The same year, we also introduced KiddyGuard®, a retractable baby gate that differed from traditional gates by being space-saving, as it consisted of fabric that rolled up and "disappeared" when not in use.

— 2000

We launched a new and improved version of KiddyGuard®, called model 800. Production in Sweden was centralized and streamlined with the latest robotics technology. KiddyGuard® quickly became popular and led to great sales success in Europe, the USA, and Japan.

— 2006

After intensive design work, we launched the m1 baby carrier. The goal had been to design the best carrier on the market, which is why it was named “m1Carrier™.” In China, “m1” means 1001, representing the best or "the one and only”. m1Carrier™ featured four unique and patent-pending functions that gave it its special features.

Unfortunately, despite the product’s popularity in Europe, the USA, and Asia, we chose to discontinue production due to a patent infringement dispute, although IP specialists considered the accusation dubious.

— 2007

A new generation of KiddyBoard® and BuggyBoard® was launched, developed by our Swedish designers and with improved technology and modern design. At the same time, we introduced a simplified version of BuggyBoard®, later named Mini™.

We had, for seven years, been using special tools in China for manufacturing in Sweden. With a well-established network, we chose to start manufacturing BuggyBoard® Mini™ in China.
This also led us to move the business to Hong Kong, but we retained our Swedish consultants for continued design, web, and IP work.

— 2009

We continued the development of BuggyBoard® and launched a new BuggyBoard®. The new version also replaced KiddyBoard™. It is universally adaptable with the new “Easy-fit” system, meaning the connection part that attaches to the stroller is designed to fit almost all frame profiles. It also has a “Quick fix and release” system, making it extra easy to attach and detach from the stroller. BuggyBoard® Maxi™ became a sales success, largely because it fits various stroller models

— 2010

After nine years of successful production of KiddyGuard® 800, a completely new gate, KiddyGuard® Avant™, was launched. It is characterized by its high quality and stylish design. The gate part is hidden in an aluminum casing when not in use.

The locking occurs with a timer, allowing a certain time to pass through once activated. Locking can also be done manually.

— 2012-2013

Two additional models, KiddyGuard® Accent™ and KiddyGuard® Assure™, were launched. KiddyGuard® Accent™ has the gate part hidden in an aluminum casing when not in use, while Assure™ is a simpler model without an aluminum casing. Both models have automatic locking.

— 2014

BuggyBoard® Saddle™ was launched, an accessory for BuggyBoard® Maxi™. It comes with a connection so that it can be easily attached to an existing BuggyBoard® Maxi™. It can be folded away if the child prefers to stand.

For safety reasons, Saddle™ is designed for “active” sitting, and the child should sit backward.
Saddle™ is highly appreciated by both children and parents.

— 2015

BuggyBoard® was expanded with the BuggyBoard® Maxi+™ model, which includes Saddle™ as standard for extra flexibility.

— 2017

Two new design projects were started: m1Carrier and m1Buggy. Both products are intended for active parents who demand quality.

The goal with m1Carrier was to create an ergonomically superior baby carrier that provides the best support for both newborns and forward-facing seated children. These are important positions as they relate to the child’s development, including the hips. Most well-known carriers on the market have failed in this regard.

The goal with m1Buggy™ was to design a buggy, compatible with a ride-on board, suitable for both short and tall users, and offering extra legroom.

— 2021

m1Carrier™ and m1Buggy™ were tested and approved according to EU and US standards, making them ready for launch.

m1Carrier™

For the newborn, m1Carrier™ offers optimal support through the extra 3D-shaped “Infant M-Seat,” which is included.  For the slightly older child sitting forward-facing, it provides the best M-position support through the patented “Hip-Zip” function, which makes it easy to switch to forward-facing use without compromising leg support.

m1Buggy™

Designed for children up to 22 KG and tested with a total load of 48 KG, including BuggyBoard® Maxi+™ loaded with 22 KG, it proves it can handle tough usage.  The multi-adjustable handles are especially suitable for both short and tall drivers and offer extra legroom when used with a ride-on board.

Unfortunately, the launch was delayed by COVID-19.
